AI Credits Pro

Plane AI is part of your plan. Your plan sets how much AI your team can use each month as two separate budgets that work independently.

  • Your personal allowance. Each member gets a monthly amount for the AI they use themselves: chat, page summaries, work item descriptions, and more. It is yours alone. Nobody else can spend it, and unused amount does not carry to the next month.
  • The workspace agent pool. Agent runs draw from one shared monthly budget for the whole workspace, separate from member allowances. Its size depends on your plan and how many paid seats you have.

Both reset at the start of every month (UTC). The AI usage screen shows where you stand.

Plane Cloud

These allowances apply to Plane Cloud. On self-hosted instances you bring your own AI provider, and limits (if any) are configured by your admin. See Self-hosted instances.

The rule: If a person asked for it, it is that person's allowance. If an agent did it, it is the workspace pool's. Admins and owners spend their own personal allowance like everyone else. Guests cannot use Plane AI.

When usage resets

Both budgets reset on the first day of each calendar month at 00:00 UTC. The reset is not tied to your billing date. Unused allowance is gone at reset - it does not carry into the next month.

The Monthly usage card on the Usage screen tells you the reset date, for example Day 17/30 · Resets Oct 01, 2026.

Nearing a limit

When you have used 80% of your personal allowance, the Monthly usage card shows a Nearing limit pill and a message: "AI usage nearing limit. Plane AI capabilities will be temporarily disabled once the limit is reached." Nothing is blocked yet - it is a warning to pace the rest of the month.

The same applies to the workspace agent pool: when it reaches 80%, agents and admins see a warning, but runs continue.

Reaching your limit

Your credits:

  • The request that takes you over 100% still finishes.
  • The next request is refused until the monthly reset.
  • The Usage screen shows Limit reached with the reset date.
  • Other members and agents are not affected.

Workspace credits:

  • No agent in the workspace can start a new run.
  • An agent already running stops as soon as the pool reaches 100%, and the run ends with: "The workspace agent budget ran out mid-run."
  • Members' personal allowances are not affected.

Per-agent limits

On top of the workspace pool, each agent can have its own monthly spending cap. When you create or edit an agent:

  1. Open Advanced settings.
  2. Set Max credit usage to a credit limit (for example, 5000 credits per month).

A run needs room in both the agent's own limit and the workspace pool. If either is exhausted, the run is refused with: "This agent has reached its budget limit. Please try again later."

The agent's detail page shows:

  • Cumulative credits usage - credits this agent has used this month
  • Monthly credit limit - the cap you set (if any)

So you can see which agents spend the most and adjust caps if needed. Only members who can manage agents can create or edit them.

Self-hosted instances

A self-hosted instance runs Plane AI on your own provider keys. Plane still records usage, in tokens rather than as a percentage, so the Usage and Analytics screens work the same way.

FAQs

Do members share their included usage?

No. Each member has their own monthly amount, and nobody else can spend it. Only the workspace pool is shared, and only agents draw from it.

What does the Workspace percentage mean?

It is an overview. It combines everyone's included usage and the workspace pool into one meter. A member or the pool can be at its limit while the workspace meter still shows room.

Can I buy more usage mid-month?

There is no self-serve top-up. A higher plan includes more usage, and the reset comes at the start of the next month.

What about a trial?

During a Business trial, your workspace has the Business plan's usage limits.
