Work item properties
Properties are the fields that describe a work item. Every work item has the same default properties. Admins can add custom properties to each work item type.
You can set properties when you create a work item, change them in the detail view, edit them inline in the List, Board, and Table layouts, or update many work items at once with bulk operations.
Default properties

| Title | A short summary of the work. Required, up to 255 characters. |
| Description | The full details, written in a rich text editor. Plane keeps a version history. |
| Type | The work item type, which decides which custom properties the work item has. New work items get the project's default type. |
| State | Where the work item is in the project's process. New work items get the project's default state. See States. |
| Priority | Urgent, High, Medium, Low, or None. New work items get None. |
| Assignees | The members responsible for the work. A work item can have several assignees. |
| Labels | Tags for grouping and filtering, such as frontend or customer-reported. A work item can have several labels. See Labels. |
| Start date | When work is planned to start. |
| Due date | When work is planned to finish. It can't be earlier than the start date. |
| Estimate | How big the work is, in the project's estimate system: points, categories such as S, M, and L, or time. See Estimates. |
| Parent | The larger work item this one belongs to. The parent can be in another project. See Sub-work items. |
| Cycle | The cycle the work is planned for. A work item can be in one cycle at a time. |
| Modules | The modules the work belongs to. A work item can be in several modules. |
Properties that depend on other features
These properties only appear when the feature they belong to is on for the workspace or project.

| Releases | The releases the work ships in. A work item can be in several releases. |
| Customers | The customers who asked for the work, and their customer requests. |
| Tracked time | The total time logged in worklogs. Plane adds it up for you. You can't edit it directly. |
Properties Plane sets for you
You can see these in the detail view and use them in filters, but you can't edit them.

| Updated on | When anything on the work item last changed. |

Rules for assignees
Only project members with the Admin or Contributor role can be assigned to a work item. Commenters and Guests can't be assignees. See Member roles.
When you assign someone to a work item, Plane subscribes them to it so they get notified about changes. See Subscribers.
Relations and dependencies
Relations, such as Relates to and Duplicate of, and dependencies, such as Blocked by and Blocking, connect a work item to other work items. They're not properties of a single work item, so you add them from the toolbar in the detail view. See Add relations and Add dependencies.
Custom properties
Custom properties hold information that's specific to your team, such as a Severity dropdown on bugs or a Customer impact number on feature requests. Admins add them to a work item type, and every work item of that type gets them.

Each property can be mandatory, have a default value, or be read-only, depending on its type. See Project work item types or Workspace work item types for how to create them and the rules for each type.
Show properties in a layout
In the List, Board, and Table layouts, you choose which properties show on each work item in Display options. You can also group, sort, and filter by most properties. See Filters.
