Workspace features
Not every feature is switched on in a new workspace. This page explains why, and lists what an owner or admin can enable.
Why a feature might not be available
Two separate things determine whether you can use a feature:
- Your plan. Some features are included only on certain plans. If your plan does not include one, Plane shows an upgrade prompt where the feature would be.
- A workspace toggle. Many features stay off until an owner or admin turns them on, even when your plan includes them. This is deliberate, so you can adopt features when your team is ready rather than all at once.
So if you cannot find a feature, check both: does your plan include it, and has an admin enabled it? Not every feature has a toggle, some are available as soon as your plan includes them.
Role: Only owners and admins can turn features on or off. Feature changes are recorded in audit logs.
Features you can turn on
Each of these is a toggle in workspace settings.

Some choices are one-way
Enabling work item types at the workspace level is not reversible: once types are workspace-managed, projects can no longer manage their own. Teamspaces, work item hierarchy, and workspace governance are permanent too. Read those pages before enabling any of them.
Features enabled by your plan alone
These do not have a workspace toggle. When your plan includes them they simply appear, though you may still need the right role to use them:
- Dashboards and workspace Analytics
- Workspace automations
- Audit logs
- Custom roles and permission groups
- Custom work item relations
- Group syncing and Identity (single sign-on)
- Plane Runner
Workspace governance
Workspace governance is a separate, larger change. When enabled, configuration that normally lives in each project, including states, workflows, labels, templates, recurring work items, and automations, moves to the workspace so it can be standardized centrally.

Turning a feature off
Most toggles can be switched back off. Turning a feature off hides it rather than deleting your data, so the content is still there if you turn it back on.
The exceptions are the one-way changes noted above: Teamspaces, workspace-level work item types, work item hierarchy, and workspace governance.
